چکیده
Abstract. In this paper we develop a novel framework aimed to significantly reduce biases related marine stratocumulus clouds in general circulation models (GCMs) while circumventing excessive computational cost requirements. Our strategy is increase the horizontal resolution using regionally refined mesh (RRM) over our region of interest addition Framework for Improvement by Vertical Enhancement (FIVE) vertical only specific physical processes that are important stratocumulus. We apply RRM off coast Peru southeastern Pacific, climatologically contains most subtropics. find new modeling able replicate results high-resolution benchmark simulation with much fidelity, reducing several orders magnitude. addition, greatly long-standing associated GCMs when compared standard-resolution control simulation.

[1] Geostationary and Sun-synchronous satellite data and in situ observations from ship cruises are used to investigate the formation of open cellular structure in marine stratocumulus clouds over the southeast Pacific (SEP). Open cellular convection either forms spontaneously as pockets of open cells (POCs) within overcast stratocumulus, or is advected into the region from midlatitude regions....
